I downloaded a song by a band called Chameleon Circuit that plays Doctor Who songs and my favorite is called “Blink.”
It’s based on one of my favorite Doctor Who episodes; it’s one in which the Doctor doesn’t appear much, and is told from the point of view of a girl named Sally who is receiving strange messages and around whom people keep disappearing because the weeping angels are coming after her.
The weeping angels are, to me, the scariest of the Doctor’s enemies. There’s something about them that reminds me of those really good horror movies, the ones that give you chills when you watch, but not because of gore or violence. The scariest things are the ones that are almost familiar and just a little bit… wrong. It’s like the feeling you get when you’re in a house at night with the lights on but there aren’t curtains on the windows. Probably no one is looking in at you, but they could be and you’d never know. Creepy. And enough to make you not want to turn your back on a dark window.
Oh. And don’t blink.
