Winter Beaches — 2012’s second week in photos
It’s the end of week two of 2012 and I’ve got another week in phone-photos for you. ^_^ The first one (above) is from 1/8/2011 and is the ceiling at the Exchange. The mural is by Wyland, and I realized I’d never taken a photo of it. Now I have.

Hungry Hippos are Hungry– 2012’s first week in Photos
I thought I’d share some of the pictures I took this week since I haven’t written much. The one at the top is of the hippos at the zoo. ^_^

Sojourn
sojourn (n.) a brief period of residence; (v.) to live somewhere temporarily I spent November outside of Hawaii. I meant to blog about it as soon as I got back, but life can be a whirlwind (plus I’m still enjoying as much of my on-vacation-laid-back attitude as much as possible) and I haven’t gotten to…

A week in the life…
I’ve been taking random snapshots of things that happen to me that are not important whatsoever but that kind of capture a bit of what’s happening. Since I haven’t had much to write about lately, I offer you these: This was a week ago: the meerkats got a snack. It was cute. I photographed it.…

It’s got the face, the feet, the tail… And yet one…

Hyena Laughs
Some days at the zoo remind me that despite the fact that it’s hot and dirty and exhausting, it’s absolutely worth it. Today was one of those days. One of the exhibits in the area where I volunteer is shared by spotted hyenas and Hamadryas baboons. They are not on exhibit at the same…

Fun Zoo News
So, I was skimming my online news sources, there was a link to the Telegraph.. and I happened across this photo: Cute, huh? Well, I also happened to notice that the barn looks awfully familiar, as does the keeper… and then I realized it was the new giraffe baby at the Virginia Zoo. ^_^ This…

More about monkeys
Today I got to observe the annual health exams of the zoo’s seven spider monkeys. It was pretty interesting. They all lost (on average) 25% of their body weight, which is good because they were on a new diet (their former diet had made them all gain a lot of weight). I also took my…

Monkeying Around
[edited to add photos] Today the schedule at the zoo was completely disrupted by tree trimmers beside the tiger exhibits, so the tigers couldn’t go outside so we couldn’t clean inside so we had an extra hour on our hands. So I suggested we flood the spider monkey exhibit. This turned out to be excellent…
